week 7

So this weeks clinical experience was definately more of a challenge than the last. I don't think my patient enjoyed my company and at one point she told me that I was aggravating her during my assessment. Oh well. She was in pretty rough shape so I can't blame her for not being enthusiastic about my presence. This experience helped me to get a glimpse of all the different kinds of personalities and situations I am yet to encounter in nursing school.

week 6

I can't believe this term is almost over. Feels like I just started school yesterday. Clinicals were great this week. I went to rehab with my patient and did the exercises with her which was a major workout. Fun times were had by all. I really need to be on my game with studying for the final. I had a wedding in South Florida this weekend and I'll be going to a bachelorette party in Jacksonville next weekend so I need to really work hard during the week.

week 5

This weekend flew by. It was really nice to have a three day weekend. I am really excited to get to see what everyone comes up with for our culture project. I am a big fan of food so I'm especially excited for snacks!

Week 4

I am definately pleased with how clinicals went. I am still wondering when we are going to run into difficult patients that are going to give the student nurses hell. I'm definately going to need to learn to toughen up. So far everyone I've met during clinicals has been super nice, then again they are just little sweet old people. Thats all. Peace!

Week 3

So I actually really enjoyed our first day of clinicals despite the nerves. I was thankful that my little old lady had tons to say which I think will make writing my paper a little easier. I hope everyone does well on our midterm. Good luck studying!

Week 2 Blog

So last night I had a dream that I was running around town unable to find Westminster or Health South for clinicals. I was totally freaking out that I was going to miss clinicals. This made me realize that I'm having some anxiety about being able to wake up at 5 a.m. in the morning. I'm not exactly a morning person. I've never been a regular coffee drinker but I bought some pumpkin spice coffee from World Market today. Now I just need a coffee maker that will wake me up with a wonderful aroma.

Fundamentals of Nursing Blog #1

I decided to become a nurse after graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Biology without any direction or idea of what kind of career I wanted to pursue. After struggling to find a decent paying job, I settled on working at a veterinary clinic, which I loved but couldn't make a career out of it for life. I really love being on my feet and interacting with people so I figured nursing would be a good choice for me. I thrive when I am busy and multitasking and I can't imagine that I would ever be bored working at a hospital. I'm sure that nursing will come with many challenges, but it will also be very rewarding. It would be very satisfying to go home from work every day knowing that I made a difference in someones life.

I'm not exactly sure what kind of nurse I want to become but I have a feeling that I will really like pediatrics. I have been a nanny my whole life and have lots of patience for kids. Patience, I feel is going to be a very important quality to have when working with sick patients. To me, nurses are the glue that hold a hospital together. They are there for support, both emotionally and physically. Nursing is a job that is very demanding, and nurses must genuinely care about patients and their families. I am very excited to learn everything I can about this profession in the next two years.
